Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was born on 14 April, 1891 in the present day Madhya Pradesh. His father, Ramji Maloji Sakpal was a Subedar and his mother, Bhimabai Sakpal was a housewife.

Ambedkar was born in a lower caste and at that time they were treated as untouchables. He had two brothers and two sisters and out of all his siblings, he was the only one to complete his education and get admission in High School.

Bhimrao Ambedkar's real surname was changed by his brahmin teacher to his own, when Ambedkar got admission in High School.
