The heart is the organ that helps supply blood and oxygen to all parts of the body. It is divided by a partition or septum into two halves, and the halves are in turn divided into four chambers. The heart is situated within the chest cavity and surrounded by a fluid filled sac called the pericardium. This amazing muscle produces electrical impulses that cause the heart to contract, pumping blood throughout the body. The heart and the circulatory system together form the cardiovascular system.

HUMAN HEART :

》Human Heart is mesodermal in origin.

》It is located in the thoracic cavity between the lungs.

》It is protected by pericardium which is a double walled membrane enclosing pericardial fluid.

》Our heart consists of four chambers - two upper chambers called atria and two lower chambers called ventricles.

》A thick walled septum called the inter-ventricular septum separates the left and right ventricles.

》A thin septum called inter-atrial septum separates right and left atria.

》Atrioventricular septum separates the atria and the ventricle of the same side.

》Bicuspid Valve regulates the opening between the left atrium and left ventricle.

》Tricuspid Valve regulates the opening between the right atrium and right ventricle.

FUNCTION :
