Answer:

In spite of adequate average rainfall in India, there is large area under the less water conditions/drought prone. There are lot of places, where the quality of groundwater is not good. Another issue lies in interstate distribution of rivers. Water supply of the 90% of India's territory is served by inter-state rivers.

Explanation:

India has only about 4 per cent of the world’s water resources. The main sources of water are precipitation, surface water and groundwater.

The total water received from precipitation is not available for use, as much of it is lost by evaporation and a good deal of it goes as run-off to rivers, lakes and ponds. A small amount seeps through the soil to form groundwater.

i. The surface water is available to us in the form of rivers, lakes, ponds and other water bodies.

ii. Rivers are the most important source of surface water in our country.
