Explanation:

Once the name 'Bihar' used to be synonimous with mining. It was stated that almost all minerals are found in Chota Nagpur plateau of Bihar, home of many tribes.Then, a decade back these tribal lands were given an identity by carving out the state of 'Jharkhand' (instead of calling it 'Chota Nagpur'). This state (now there are no minerals in Bihar, which is in main 'Ganga' basin), is the largest coal producer of Indian states. Main centers of coal-mining are - Karanpura, Giridih, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Hazaribagh and the famous Jharia. Coal is found in underground layers called seams.
