corrosion :- it is the oxidation deterioration of metal surface with the action of its environment to form unwanted corrosion products like , suphides , carbonates , sulphates etc .
it is usually affects metallic substance and typically produce oxides .
corrosion of copper :- in corrosion , copper is oxidesed by loss of electrons to oxides and form oxides . due to this on copper develop of green coating .
rusting of iron :-
rusting of iron we can show by following reaction .
Fe2+ + H20 + 1/2O2 →Fe2O3 + 4H+ → Fe2O3.xH2O ( rust ) { hydrated ferric oxides }
Preventing of rusting :-
there are two most popular way of preventing of rusting .
1) Galvanisation : - in Galvanisation , a thin film of Zn is coated over iron .
where Zn form a protect oxide layer .
2) Cathodic protection :- here, the equipment made of Fe is attached to a more easily oxidizable metal, like Mg.
