Types of rocks

1) Igneous rock => the word igneous comes from the Latin word ignis which means fire .These rock are called igneous because they were formed by the cooling of molten magma.Ex- granite, pumice.

Sedimentary rock=> the word sedimentary comes from the Latin word sedimentum which means to settle down.Rain ,wind ,ice, break into rock. Ex- sandstone,limestone.

Metamorphic rock=> the word metamorphic comes from the Greek word metamorphose which means change of form. Some rocks within the lithosphere experience some changes because of the high pressure or high temperature or both, these rocks are called metamorphic rocks. Ex- quartzite and marble.
