Filariasis:
The infections caused by roundworm that belongs to Filarioidea type is filariasis. This belongs to helminthiases. It majorly affects lymph vessels and nodes. It can be identified by microscopic examination of the blood smear.
The microfilariae that causes lymphatic filariasis in the blood smear confirms filariasis. It circulates in the blood during night time (nocturnal periodicity). It is spread by mosquitoes or black flies.
The symptoms include high fever, skin exfoliation, testicular or inguinal pain, swelling of limbs or genitals. The treatment includes the drug called Diethylcarbamazine (DEC).
