➪ French revolution refers to major upheaval and drastic socio economic and political transformation that took place in France between the period 1789 to 1799.
➪ It refers to the movement on part of the people which brought about an end of the old regime in France , and later established society on the basis of merit.
➪ It refers to complete overhauling of French political structure that ended monarchy and declared France to be a Republic.
Causes of the French Revolution :-
♪The French social structure - This would primarily explains the organisation of the French society which was based on hierarchy supporting the nobility and clergy. The King, the nobility and the clergy lived a lavish life style.
♪ The Role of the Church in the French society- The clergy who constituted the first estate were exempted from paying taxes to the state.The clergy further extracted taxes, called tithes from the peasantry.
♪ Economic crisis- The prices of essential commodities were very high due to increased demand and wages were low. This made survival difficult for the poor sections of the society.
♪ Rise of Middle class- The growth of middle class and the ideas of philosophers like Rousseau and Voltaire on equality and freedom made the people aware of their rights.
Consequences of the French Revolution :-
☁️ The French revolution certainly had a long lasting impact on the people of the France and the World. The political and constitutional changes that came about in the wake of the French Revolution led to the transfer of sovereignty from the monarchy to a body of French citizens.
☁️The revolution declared the supremacy of the people and that government must represent the will of the people.
☁️ The ideas of liberty and democratic rights were the most important legacy of the French Revolution
☁️ The ideals and virtues of liberty , equality , fraternity were reflected in everyday life.
☁️ The revolution marked the end of censorship, newspapers, pamphlets , were published on a large scale to popularise ideas of liberty, freedom, justice.
☁️ The declaration of the rights of the man proclaimed certain natural and inalienable rights of men.
☁️ It guaranteed freedom of press which raised as well as criticised the government,
☁️ Plays , songs, processions were organised to popularise ideals of freedom, liberty.
☁️ It encouraged debate,reasoning, discussion among the people who began to question the status quo.
☁️ It led to spread of revolutionary ideas in other parts of Europe.
