Giuseppe Mazzini was an Italian journalist, politician and activist. His efforts helped Italy become independent and unified. He also helped the modern European Movement. He was born in Genoa. His father was a university professor and his mother was a renowned beauty and religious fervour. Mazzini was vigourously opposed to Marxism and Communism. He condemned the socialist revolt of France that led to the creation of the short lived Paris Commune. This later caused Karl Marx to refer Mazzini as a recreationary. Mazzini later died of pleurisy in Pisa in 1872. His funeral was held in Genoa which had 1 lakh people taking part in it.
