Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the first Sikh Guru. He founded the Sikh Religion.

- Guru Nanak emphasises the importance of the worship of one god. God for Nanak, was non-incarnate and formless, eternal and ineffable.
- He insisted that caste , creed or gender where irrelevant for attaining liberation
- His idea of liberation was not that of a state of inert bliss but rather the pursuit of active life with a strong sense of social commitment.
