The Himalayan range has many of the Earth's highest peaks, including the highest, Mount Everest. The Himalayas include over fifty mountains exceeding 7,200 metres (23,600 ft) in elevation, including ten of the fourteen 8,000-metre peaks. By contrast, the highest peak outside Asia (Aconcagua, in the Andes) is 6,961 metres (22,838 ft) tall.[1]

In India the Himalaya extend from Jammu and Kashmir to Andhra Pradesh. They are the great barrier as they protect us from cold biting winds from other countries.Himalayas have three ranges ,that are - Himadri ,Himachal and Shivalik range .

Himadri range is the outermost range of Himalayas. It's height is 6000 mt.The northern most range is known as the Greater Inner Himalayas or the Himadri . It is always covered with snow.

Himachal is known as Lesser or Middle Himalaya or the Himachal. It's height is 3700 to 4500m and average width is 50 m. The range consists of the famous valley of Kashmir, the Kangra and Kullu Manali valley in Himachal Pradesh.

Shiwalik is known as the Shiwalik .Its width is of 10-50 km and has an altitude varying between 900 and 1000 m.These ranges are composed of loose river deposits brought down by rivers from the main Himalayan ranges located for north.

The longitudinal valley lying between lesser himalaya and shiwaliks are known as duns. Dehra Dun, Kotli Dun and Patli Dun are some of the well known duns.

Hope it helps you!!! ^_^
