When the acid amides on reaction with Br2 in the presence of alkalies at about 343 K give primary amine, then the reaction is known as Hoffmann Bromamide Reaction. It may be noted that the amine formed by the Hoffmann Bromamide reaction has one carbon atom less than the parent compound.

Answer:
✔Hoffmann developed a method for preparation of primary amines by treating an amide with bromine in an aqueous or ethanolic solution of sodium hydroxide.
✔In this degradation reaction, migration of an alkyl or aryl group takes place from carbonyl carbon of the amide to the nitrogen atom.
✔The amide so formed contains one carbon less than that present in the amide.
⭐Reaction ----
RCONH2 + Br2 +4NaOH ➡RNH2 + Na2CO3 + 2NaBr + 2H2O
