Oxygen can be used for many things.

Importance to humans and animals:

Inhaling it

inflating the big bright balloon for their young child (humans specifically haha)

Importance to plants:

exhaling it so humans and animals can have it

there are most likely other importances

Random uses:

one of the ingredients of starting fire

combined with other elements to make other chemicals and such

Oxygen is one of the most important elements that the world could not do without for sure. It’s definitely not the ONLY thing in the air (such as nitrogen, and carbon dioxide which are also very important for the planet).

There are many other importances that a freshman in high school like me aren’t going to think of to include in this answer but there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of uses for oxygen.

It is vital that living things respire to get the oxygen for living cells to function. Without air, there is no life. Plants use Carbon Dioxide (together with sunlight and water) to produce energy and give out Oxygen as a by-product. This oxygen is what almost all animals need to survive.
