ISOBARS:

Isobars are imaginary lines joining the areas of equal air pressure on earth. The word isobar is made up of two words, Iso meaning the same and bar is used as the unit to measure pressure, do isobar means the areas or surface of earth having the same pressure.

As the earth's surface is not uniform it is heated by sun at different levels when the surface gets heated the air on surface also gets heated and starts to move from an areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure. During these movements of the air different pressure zones are created over the earth's surface.

And, when an imaginary line is drawn to connect these areas having same pressure then these lines are called isobars. It is done to see the movement of air and is also used to identify the conditions of cyclones and anticyclones.
