Her husband passed away in 1944 and from late 1944 to 1946, she travelled to the USA on a lecture tour. After Independence, she entered the diplomatic service and became the Ambassador to the Soviet Union, the United States, Mexico, Ireland and Spain. She was also the Indian High Commissioner to the UK.
