The total number of members in Rajya Sabha is 250. Out of these 250, 238 members represent States and Union Territories of India and the remaining 12 are to be selected by the President of India.
The Election process of the members representing the States is totally by the Single Transferable Vote and these members are elected by the members of State Legislative assemblies.
The members from the Union territories are chosen by a simple procedure, which is prescribed by the parliament at the time of election.
The 12 remaining personalities are to be elected by the President from the field of literature, arts, science, social service,etc.
