Repetition is more of a rhetoric device than figure of speech which can be used in prose as well as poetry. In repetition words, phrases, a line or an idea is repeated more than once to emphasize a point and its significance in a text. Repetition can occur in different modes which can be repetition of a sound as in alliteration or repetition of words at the start of clauses or verses as in anaphora. The examples are:
Example 1. Water, water every where, Not a drop to drink
Water, water every where, all the boards did shrink
This is an example from The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. The repetition of water here points at the magnitude of the sea.
