Spinal Cord:

Origin:-

  • Medulla Oblongata, after coming out from foramen of magnum continues in the neural canal of vertebral column. This continuation of Medulla is called spinal cord.

Functions:-

  • It acts as a bridge between brain and organs of body.

  • Spinal nerves regulates the reflex actions.

Other Properties:-

  • Weight of spinal cord is 35 gram.

  • Length of spinal cord is 45 cm

  • Spinal cord extends from Brain to L1 region.

  • Its upper part is wide and lower end is narrow.

  • Spinal cord is covered by diameter, aracnoid and piameter.

  • When made a transverse section, Gray matter is found inside and white matter is found outside the spinal cord.

  • Gray matter forms dorsal and ventral horns.

  • Dorsal and ventral horns devide the white matter of spinal cord in 4 funiculus
  • Conus medullaris is present up to L1 vertebra.

  • Terminal part of conus medullaris extends to form filum terminate.

  • Spinal nerves are 31 pairs.
