Cardiac muscles occur exclusively in heart. They resemble with smooth muscles in being involuntary, and with striated muscles in the presence of transverse striations. Cardiac muscles have an inherent rhythmic contractility the rate of which can be modified by autonomic nerves that supply them.

On the other hand, striated muscles occur mainly in association with bones (skeletal system) and in relation to the body wall. The fibres of these muscles show prominent transverse striations and normally made to contract according our will under the conscious control of nervous system.
