Bolsheviks used the red guards as their military forces and after winning even appointed the red guards to maintain the morale and to ensure loyalty.
However, there were many that were against Bolsheviks but they tried their best to overcome anything and it was normal to see violent clashes of parties with the one loyal to Bolsheviks.
