Late 18th century was the time when cricket was organised on the basis of race and religion in Colonial India. The first . Indian club, the Calcutta Cricket Club was established in 1792.Then, it was played by British military men and civil servants in all white-club and gymkhanas.
Parsis was the first Indian community to play cricket. They founded the first Indian cricket club, the Oriental Cricket Club in Bombay in 1848 and also built their own Gymkhana. By the 1890s Hindus and Muslims founded Hindu Gymkhana and Islam Gymkhana.
First class cricket was played by Quadrangular Tournament (played by the Europeans, Parsis, Hindus and Muslims) and later by Pentangular Tournament (a fifth team, the Rest was added).
