The distribution of natural vegetation in India is dependent on the following factors:
1) Relief: Land and Soil
• Land- The nature of land influences the type of vegetation. The fertile land is devoted to agriculture.
• Soil- The soils also vary with space. Different types of soils provide basis for different types of vegetation. The sandy soils of the desert support cactus and thorny bushes, while wet, marshy, deltaic soils support mangrove and deltaic vegetation. The hill slopes with some depth of soil have conical trees.
2) Climate: Temperature, Precipitation and Humidity
• Temperature- The rise and fall of temperature affects various types of vegetation.
• Precipitation- Areas of heavy rainfall have more dense vegetation.
• Humidity- High humidity decreases the loss of water by plants.
