The underlying theme of the story " The Lost Child " is the universality of a child's desire for everything that he claps his eyes on . All that the child witnesses from the toys lining the street , to the dragon flies in the mustard field to the snake swaying to the tunes of a pungi obsesses the child .

Explanation:
The story The Lost child written by Mulk Raj Anand is all about a child who is innocent and loves nature and its beauty . the child goes to a fair with his parents but he lost his parents in the fair .
The theme of the poem is that for a child his mother and father are the best asset for him rather than anything . when the boy reached the fair, he was attracted and fascinated by many things and also he wanted those things . But when he knew that he had lost his way then the only words on his mouth were mother and father which shows the love and affection of a child for his parents . Hence we should always respect our parents.
