'History and sports: The story of cricket'

History of cricket :-

cricket was discovered in England. After some times of became discover it got the attraction of people. people get attracted towards this intresting game. After been discovered it intermately linked to the culture of Victorian society of England . In nineteenth century , it was supposed to show the standard of the England society.

It was expected to represent all the England values, discipline and culture. after some time it spread to the colonies. It was supposed to uphold the values of England's people.

This adorable game then got link with the political and social environment of England. This linked up the politics of colonialism and nationalism.

The emergence of cricket as a national game is a result of many decades of historical development. Cricket grew sone changes in the starting are likely to be that the measurements of sticks , bats and pitches changed .
Cricket was given its unique nature by the history of England.

●Peculiarities of cricket:-

◆A match can go on for five days and still end in a draw.

◆Length of the pitch is specified — 22 yards — but the size or shape of the ground is not.

●reason for these changes are :-

◆Cricket rules were made before the Industrial Revolution when life moved at a slow pace.

◆Cricket was played on the commons. Each common had a different shape and size. There were no designed boundaries or boundary hits.

----------HISTORY OF CRICKET ----------

Cricket is now a world popular game. It was originated in south West England in 16th century. This was also called as " GENTLEMAN'S GAME". It got popularity after 18th century. The cricket was first played in England but cricket was itself not popular in England.

Cricket was played as test. The first international cricket match was played in 1750s. Test was not much popular because as it was too boring. Then the one day international matches were started.The first world cup of cricket was started in 1975. It was won by West indies. The people wanted some more interesting thing in cricket so this led to the discovery of T20 international matches.

RULES AND REGULATIONS OF CRICKET :

☆ The match is played between two teams.

☆ Each team consists of 11 players ( playing XI ).

☆ The Test match is played in unlimited overs in 5 days. Each team plays two innings but it is based on play. As, 90 overs are played in 1 day. If the match doesn't finish in 5days then it consider as draw.

☆ The one day international is played in 50 overs by each team. In each over a ball is delivered 6 times.The first team scores a score that should be targeted by another and be chased then the team is winner or loser.

☆ The T20 match played in 20 overs.

☆ The international matches are played in stadiums.

☆ This is played by some equipments. The main are Bat and ball.

☆ The one who throws the ball is called as bowler. The one who hits the ball with the bat is called as Batsmen.

☆ The Batsmen should hit the bowl outside the fence. If the bowl crosses the ball directly is considered as six.If it crosses by ground is called as four runs.

☆ If the ball will not cross the fence then the batsmen take the runs.

☆ The team also get scores by many ways like extras. The reasons are as follows :

》 Wide

》 Leg bye

》 Bye


》 Free hit ( no ball)

1. Wide : If the ball bowled by bowler is to far from batsmen either left or right side of batsmen crossing the limit line.

2. Leg bye : If the ball hits the body of batsmen without hitting the bat can be scored by running.

3. Bye : If the ball moves without touching the any part of body of batsmen is results as bye.

4. Free hit : If the bowler crosses the length line then it results as no ball or free hit where the batsmen is declared as not out for next delivery.


☆ The Batsmen can be get out by many ways like :

》 Bowled

》 Caught

》 Run out

》 Hit wicket

》 LBW ( Leg before wicket ) etc..

1. Bowled : If the bowl hits the wickets then the batsmen is declared as out.

2. Caught : when the ball was hitted by batsmen, if any fielder catches the ball then the batsmen is out.

3. Run out : During the running for runs, if the fielders high the wickets before the batsmen reaches the crease then he is out.

4. Hit wicket : If the batsmen hit the wickets during hitting the ball then he is out.

5. LBW : If the leg of batsmen comes across the ball which is seemed to hitting the wickets in impact line is declared as out..
