T.S. Arthur was born in New York in the year 1809. Arthur was ten years old when his father shifted to Baltimore. It was there that the boy attended the local schools. He likes to hear the stories from the Bible. This inculcated a moral spirit in him. His writings bear a clear moral tone that guided most Americans of the time.
Arthur wrote on a variety of subjects. He wrote for children. He wrote about History, about marriage and divorce etc. He made name by his novel 'Ten Nights in a Bar-Room' and 'What I saw There'. It contained an effective argument against alcoholic drinks. The contemporary Americans were influenced by this literary writing. His was a sane voice for the middle class, emphasising good moral values.
