\huge\mathfrak{Variable}

In algebra , we use two kinds of symbols

  • Constants
  • Variables

✴A symbol which has a fixed value is called a constant.

Example =>

9, \: -2, \:  \frac{7}{8}, \:  \: -8

✴A symbol which doesn't has a fixed value is called a variable.

✴It can take different values

✴They are unknown numbers

✴They are also known as literals.

✴They obey all the rules of operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and divisions.

Example => x,y,n,m etc.

For any variables x,y ,z we have :

x+y = y+x (commutative law)

(x+y)+z = x+(y+z) (associative law)

x+0 = x = 0+x (additive identity)

x+(-x) = 0 = (-x)+x (additive inverse)
