(1) Vascular bundles are the components of the vascular tissue system in the plants.

• They are also termed as ‘fascicle’.

• They are responsible for transportation in plants

• It's a primary tissue system in the plants.

• It's also denoted as complex tissue system in plants.

(2) Vascular bundle consists of TWO main parts.

• Xylem : the tissue which conducts water

• Phloem: the tissue which conducts food

(3) Both xylem and phloem are known as complex tissues because they contain different types of tissues.

Components of xylem

- Tracheids

- Vessels

- Xylem fibres

- Xylem parenchyma.

Components of phloem

- Sieve cells/Sieve tubes

- Companion cells

- Phloem parenchyma

- Phloem fibres (bast fibres).

Short note on Vascular bundle:

Vascular bundles are the xylem and phloem in plants.  Vascular bundles are defined as the tissue that helps in carrying water, mineral salts as well as prepared food through the plant body.  According to their structure and function, vascular bundles are two in types – xylem and phloem.

Xylem caries the water and mineral salts from root to the leaves of the plant and phloem carries the prepared food from the leaves to the different parts of plants as well as storage organs.  Xylem has 4 parts namely tracheids, trachea, xylem parenchyma and xylem fibres.  Phloem has 4 parts namely seive tubes, companion cells, phloem parenchyma and phloem fibres.
