Write a note on vaughans poetic technique
Answers
Answer:
Henry Vaughan is considered to be one of the metaphysical poets of the 17th-century. Here the term metaphysical means “After the Physical”, it philosophically questions the reality of nature. Vaughan’s poetry was purely based on metaphysics, religious beliefs and the natural world.
His early poems are of Romantic genre (i-e Love poems having the subject name of Catherine) distinguished by learned imagery, systematic reasoning quality and a fine blend of passion and thought. Vaughan started writing quite abruptly and colloquially with dramatic openings
However, after his early publishing, Vaughan takes his poetry on a new dimension with the depth in his voice and the use of scriptures in his poems leaves no doubts as to the poet’s intention. The mixture of emotion and one’s thought is one of the main characteristics of metaphysical poetry and Vaughan, has intellectual thinking with deeply embedded religious emotions. These emotional techniques can be witnessed in his various poems (i.e. The Regeneration, Shower, Retreat, Peace and the World Etc.).
The poems of Vaughan are the best examples of concentration and conciseness. His poems are short but every single line is packed with meaning and emotions. He is the first poets who used slant rhyme or half rhyme in his poems.
Unlike other poets of his genre, his poems are filled with his love towards nature. Besides, there is a strong note of divinity and magic in his poetry. Regardless of other elements, Henry Vaughan’s poetry is abundant in metaphysical elements.
