Human cells have 46 chromosomes. In which 44 are autosomes and the last pair is known as sex chromosomes. In female the pair is XX and in male it is XY. Male & females gametes have half i.e 22 autosomes and one sex chromosomes. In female gametes it is (22+X) chromosomes and in male it is (22+X) / (22+Y) Chromosomes.

If (22+X) male chromosome fuses with the egg then the baby would be a girl. And if (22+Y) male chromosome fuses with egg then the baby would be a boy.
