With the news of two presumptive cases of Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in Toronto, we understand there could be some anxiety in the school community. We want to assure you we are monitoring the situation carefully, and the institution is following all official directions from public health officials. We will provide updates as required.
We want to remind students that public health officials state that the risk of contracting the virus is low at this time. However, to help you protect yourself from possible infection, Health officials recommend you:
•Wash your hands frequently and well with soap and water
•Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer
•Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
•Cough or sneeze into your elbow, or cover your cough or sneeze
•Avoid close contact with anyone showing •symptoms of respiratory illness
•Stay home if you are sick and avoid contact with others
•If you are sick, contact a health care provider about your symptoms and inform them of your travel history
Symptoms of the Corona Virus range from common to severe respiratory illness and include fever, cough and difficulty breathing. If you have recently travelled internationally and are experiencing these symptoms, avoid contact with others, see a health care provider and tell them the countries you visited.
Explanation:
Regarding the evolution of the epidemic phenomenon linked to the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus infection, it is recommended that the GSSI community as well as the broader public comply with the following protective measures provided by WHO – World Health Organization.
- Wash your hands frequently. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub if your hands are not visibly dirty.
- Practice respiratory hygiene. When coughing and sneezing, cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – discard tissue immediately into a closed bin and clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
- Maintain social distancing. Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and other people, particularly those who are coughing, sneezing and have a fever.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth. Hands touch many surfaces which can be contaminated with the virus.
In a time where there has been so much sudden change and uncertainty, let’s celebrate and be thankful that our confidence and faith is anchored on an unchanging, unshakeable truth. Our present and our futures are held securely by our God El Roi, the God who sees us, who has gone before us and who loves us unceasingly.
May his peace and joy rest on you and your families during this time.
