Hi!

Here I am writing about my maiden trip to Shillong. Started on 11th early morning from Kolkata. I will try to capture our journey and related nitty-gritty for you rather than how beautiful it was (which you probably already kind of know).

Picked up from Guwahati. Started to Shillong. The roads are beautiful with picturesque bounties of mother nature. We stopped at Jiva's and had a quick brunch and customarily bought pineapple from the local sellers. As we proceeded, we were mesmerized by what we saw. A huge deep blue lake (Umiam Lake), cool breeze...life coming alive. Water level wasn't too high but one can imagine how does it look during monsoon.

We continued our journey and as we approached Shillong, we saw long queue of cars. our driver Mr. Dipak (+91 8974023496) informed us Shillong is infamous for its traffic. The city girl in me laughed, what does he know about a metro traffic!! I guess someone *up there* laughed at me for my naivety-there we were standing for next 20 minutes at the same spot. Took around 50 mins to reach to our destination-4 kms in 50 mins. Beat that! We resided at the High Court guest house in a place called Fourth Furlong-(how colonial)! Rested for a while and got out to experience night@ Shillong. One word- TRAFFIC! Cabs refused to go. We asked someone if we can walk till police Bazaar (central Shillong) and guess what! he actually offered us a lift :) (faith in humanity-restored). Police Bazaar is just like any central plaza of any other hill station. Usual cacophony, busy streets, shops..we know the drill. It was chilly outside and we had some local homemade ice-cream and decided to have an early dinner. Found this Chinese joint called Barbecue, adjacent to Jiva's Sizzlers. Lovely decor and excellent food. Do check this out. After dinner, we were lucky enough to get a reserved cab. Paid him 100 bucks to reach to our guest house (generally shared cabs take Rs. 10 each).

Do carry an umbrella specially for Cherrapunji as it can start raining any time.

Pack plenty of warm cloths- Shillong is quite cold (by Bong standards :p)

Do help in keeping the environment clean and green
