Nationalism or the pride upon one's nation comes from within. It is not dependent on the any status of government. Being full of pride for your own country comes from various other things like gratitude towards the land that gave birth to you and cultivated you into the person you.

Being proud of country means being proud of yourself because you belong from there. The glorious past and richness in culture these things count for nationalism. Country's achievement in the past or country's vision for the future. Last but not the least you should take immense pride in your local food for adding these different flavors to the world cuisine.
