I was very excited about my upcoming trip to Mumbai on this summer vacation. I could not only meet my cousins and friends but we have already planned some fun time during my short visit there.
I landed at Mumbai and the excitement started. I stayed at my Uncle’s there. My cousins and I started catching up on things as we were meeting after a long time, like new games we were playing, latest books to read and so on and so forth. We got into a more relaxed state of mind after we reached home and settled down.
But our chats had no end to it! We started planning our upcoming days of my stay to make the most of it. Some of my other cousins too joined and added to our fun. We played games together. We would just around watching movies sometimes or just relax with books.
Every evening we planned to go out to the beach or movie or some shopping. Mumbai being a large city there were of lot of places to look around. The only drawback was time-consuming travel locally. So we planned in such a way that we could save some time on commuting, It would still be longer reaching our destination compared to other places in India! The mode of travel was different from other places as we needed to travel in local trains so the travel itself was an adventure!
One day I had gone with some friends and cousins to the Chowpathy beach. It was pleasant that day so we could leave earlier than usual for our evening venture. The beach was not crowded. We had lot of fun playing all sorts of game. I enjoyed walking in the water on the beach. We were running and splashing water on each and were having lot of fun and merriment.
Suddenly we heard a loud cry but we had trouble locating the source of the voice. The voice was getting louder and louder and more frantic too. At last, one of my friends noticed a boy of 10 or 12 drowning a few feet away in the slightly deeper part of the sea and trying valiantly to stay up above the water. The tide was also picking up a bit. Without even pausing I dived into the water and started swimming towards the boy. My friends were shocked and started shouting to stop me. But I was bent on my rescue mission.
I knew swimming and had trained well too. In spite of that it took all my strength to reach the boy fighting against the tide. The more I was getting closer I felt the boy was being pulled away! It needed herculean effort to reach the boy. I caught the boy tightly afraid of losing him against the tide and started swimming back. I do not know how I managed that day to swim back with the boy pulled along. I thought of nothing but being safe with the boy on dry ground. I kept that thought firm in my mind and kept swimming! When we reached I we both got help and we were dragged onto the shore. It took quite sometime for me to get back to my normal self. The boy looked miserable but he was fine and that gave me all the strength needed to recover. The shock of it hit me much later physically and I slept through half a day to get over my tiredness.
I was applauded by everyone around and the boy’s parents for my brave act. The elation it gave me was beyond words. I was a hero for a few days, atleast in the eyes of mu cousins and friends! I must really admit ,'it was quite an adventure'!

One day my friend, Sachin and I were sitting on the terrace of our huge building and chatting as usual. Sachin loves adventure stories. He reads a lot. He was telling me about one of the stories he had read and we were joking that we could also have an adventure. We said this for fun. But somehow it came true and our adventure began instantly.
A huge gas balloon landed near us. There was no passenger in it. Both of us went near it and looked at it from all sides. It looked very attractive. We had read about people going for fun rides in the gas balloons. But this one had landed on its own. There was no one inside. After investigating it from outside we carefully stepped inside the balloon.
We were busy playing inside it when suddenly it started moving. Before we could realize what was happening, we were lifted up in the sky. The balloon started flying. First we were shocked and scared. But when it flew over the buildings and we saw the beautiful sights we started enjoying the flight.
Some birds flew past us. There were kites flying in the sky. We even caught one kite and kept it for ourselves. But suddenly the air in the balloon was reduced and it started coming down. First we landed on an elephant who was about to take people for a ride in a fair. All the people who were waiting in the queue came running to see us. It was a very funny sight. A gas balloon with two of us, resting on the back of an elephant. People took pictures and laughed.
There was a group dance going on nearby in the fair. They were dancing in a circle. Our balloon went and landed in the center. The dancers shrieked with fright. But the audience thought that it was a planned feat that the balloon should land in the middle of the circle of dancers. They clapped and clapped. When we got down from the balloon many of them rushed forward to take autographs from us.
Sachin and I quickly ran home. After reaching home, Sachin said, "I must admit it was quite an adventure".
