Story on “Luck never favored me in my childhood..
Luck ever favoured me in childhood and I always felt bad about that. We all would have been lucky at some point of time, however in my case luck and me were like North Pole and South Pole. Born in middle class Hindu family, my parents had named me Lucky Shastri! Yes, you heard right. But wait! That had nothing to do with me being lucky. When I was born had three moles, one in my right index finger, one in left side eyebrow and one little above my lip. The astrologer who came for naming ceremony had told my parents that children who were born with moles in these places were extremely lucky. So my parents named me Lucky Shastri. As I grew up I began to accept the fact that my parents had named me wrongly.
Now let me narrate few incidents about how unlucky I can get. When I joined school my admission number was 131313..that was 3 thirteens consecutively…sigh! It all started with this. Even though like other kids in my class I was lively and good, none of the teachers gave ne importance. I was made to sit in the back bench and most often teachers would not remember my name and would ask me again and again. I never got to be part of any school activities, which was for privileged few or take part in any competition. If I did, which was rarely I never won, even though you could say I was better than some of the winners of the competition. Unlucky, isn’t it? Finally I got a chance to act in the annual school play. The role? Yes a few second role. I was to be a part of the crowd in a market scene. I would just come in and go out of the stage within few seconds.
For many this was a trivial role and even my parents did not want me to partake for such a meagre role. But for me, it was something better than nothing. But after that….just before the day of the dress rehearsal, the principal had come to see the play to give her final approval. Guess what happened! The principal felt that there were too many people for the market scene which was not needed and she had asked the concerned teacher to remove a few of them. Well, being the unlucky person I am, I was the first one to go out…poor me…When it came to interschool and intra-school sports competition, either I was too short for some games or too tall for it. I came close to getting the first rank in school but never made it, and like this so many things happened in my life.
But the real twist in the story is while I was always unlucky in my childhood, this bad luck is what had made me today the successful person I am. Did not understand? Few years back when I completed my degree, several companies had come for campus recruitment. I too was selected by a company however I had attend one main interview the next day at the company’s office. I was very happy and excited. But sadly the very same evening I slipped from the stairs and fractured my leg. I was shattered. I had lost the opportunity to work in a big company since I was unable to go for the main interview the next day due to my accident. For days I was on bed and boredom and idle mind was killing me within me. One day my father’s friend who was a movie director had come to meet him. My father introduced me to him. He was a jovial and kind man. He felt sorry for my state and was discussing with me about my bad luck. For some reason I got piqued at him and went on an emotional rant.
My father’s friend was staring at me till I realised that I had unnecessarily go angry. I started profusely apologising to him when he suddenly said. “Where have you been all along, I have been looking for someone like you”. I was like, “sorry”? Then he had told me that he was taking a new picture and he wanted a new face for his movie. He liked my natural style and emotion and felt that I had the potential to be a good hero. And yes he was right. Today I am successful actor and I am in a very happy space. It feels nice to see people recognising me instantly and especially my teachers from school, for many whom I did not exist. It was my bad luck that gave me the luck and made me what I am today….Then I changed my thought….after all Lucky Shastri was not all that Unlucky!!
