Cultural Heritage Autobiography

Sometimes I do not even know where to begin when it comes to my identity.  I have absorbed so many different roles I question which one suits my personality, or vice versa how my personality suits my identity.  When it comes to explaining my cultural heritage, I get rather confused and sometimes defensive because I do not always fit into social categories.  There are more contradictions then there are agreements.

I guess starting at the basics is the only way I can really dive into this exercise.   I was raised an only child yet I am one of eight brothers and sisters because I am my mother’s only child yet the fourth for my father.  My mother worked for Indian Health Service as a dentist and until I was the age of nine, she and I lived on or around different reservations throughout the United States.  In contrast, my father lived on a farm in the center of Ohio, where I was exposed to a different mentality than that of the reservations – one that was quit critical of my mother’s career.  When I was with my father during the summer I participated in typical farm activities like hay rides and taking care of the animals.  Since my father slaughtered all of his own cows, every meal consisted of beef: steak and eggs, steak and potatoes, steak sandwiches...steak everything.  other asked questions and began to explore, she her shorter and shorter the older my grandparents became) and then go horseback riding one day.  If I was with them for my birthday, they would take me and the neighbor’s kids to the local water park and give us tokens for video games and mini golf.  Also for my birthday, my grandmother would take me shopping for a new school dress, so I could look “snazzy” on my first day.  My grandfather would make his “world famous” meatloaf and oo and they
