Abanindranath Tagore

Famous painter and writer Abanindranath Tagore was born on 7 August 1871. He was the grandfather of the famous poet Rabindranath Tagore. He was the creator of the "Indian Society of Oriental Art". He started watercolour painting for the first time in India inspired by famous Japanese artists.

He was also a major exponent of Swadeshi values in Indian art. He wrote many books for children. Some of his famous books are 'Aban Thakur', his books 'Rajkahini', 'Buro Angla', 'Nalak', and 'Khirer Putul'. He died on 5 December 1951.
