CROP CULTIVATION

Weeding :-

The process of removing weeds (unwanted plants which grow in-between the crops) is called weeding. It has to be practiced regularly for a good crop growth.

Why weeding is required?

• To increase the fertility of soil.
• To increase penetration of water to the roots of the crops.
• To decrease the competition of weeds for space, nutrients, water so that crops can receive the required amount of all these things and hence can nourish properly.

Threshing :-

The process of grain separation after harvesting the crop is known as threshing. In this process the edible part of the grain is separated from the chaff. It is important to carry out this procedure at right time so that the crops do not get deteriorated.

Some ways to carry out threshing are :-

• Manual Threshing - Hand beating, holding a crop against a rotating drum with spikes etc.
• Machine Threshing
