(a) The preparation of soil is the first step before growing a crop. One of the most important tasks in agriculture is to turn the soil and loosen it. This allows the roots to penetrate deep into the soil. The loosened soil helps in the growth of earthworms and microbes present in the soil.

(b) Sowing is the process by which seeds are buried inside the soil. After sowing, the seeds germinate inside the soil and then grow up to become a complete plant. Germination is also known as the sprouting of seeds. It is the process through which the entire organism grows from a seed or a spore.

(c) Weeding or weed control is the process of removing unwanted plants from crop fields. Here physical, chemical and biological methods are used to stop weeds from reaching a mature stage of growth when they could be harmful to domesticated plants and livestock.

(d) Threshing is the process of loosening the edible part of grain (or other crop) from the straw to which it is attached. It is the step in grain preparation after reaping. Threshing does not remove the bran from the grain.
