Water is life. If it disappeared from the earth, life too would disappear with it. In fact, some futurologists say, the next big war would not be fought for acquiring territory nor for any economic gain, but for water. For, human, animal, plant life depend on it and it is becoming a scarce resource day by day.
A larger area of the earth is covered by water than land, but most of it is saline water, not fit for human consumption.In fact the salinity is so high in certain places, that life is not known to exist in such medium, as in the Dead Sea. Scientists have, however, set up desalination plants in some regions for make the water potable.

The Earth is covered with 71% of water.The vast majorityof water of the earth's surface , over 96% is saline water in the oceans which is totally unfit for human consumption. The remaining water flowing in the streams , rivers , storing in the wells , lakes and ponds and in the ground water statifies the human need. These water provide with the essential nutrients required for the growth and over all development of the living organisms.
There is need to save water especially ground water as borewells are being dugged to the greater depth and gradually leading to the ground water depletion.The water in lakes and ponds is lowering due to evaportion of water .
In INDIA 90% of the farmers rely on RAIN for their crop irrigation. The highest receiving rainfal place in India faces the problem of acute water cut problem due to improper management of water.
In acient times , throughout the year rivers were flowing with great volume of water even the streams. But now only AMAZON river flows with great volume. The water table lowered because of the replnish of ground water and climatic change.
