If there is any nuisance that can be seen in every part of our country, it is the plastic or polythene bags. The visual given shows how the plastic has polluted our streams. In fact, the plastic bags have become a curse and a threat to our environment. It is mainly because they are not biodegradable. They do not disintegrate and become one with the soil. So when they go into the soil, they do not allow any vegetation to grow under them. They choke the drains because water cannot penetrate through them. If food is kept for a long time, the plastic pollutes it. Polythene bags with remains of food attract the animals. They eat them only to die. If we throw them into rivers or even oceans, they choke the life out of water animals. If you burn them, they pollute the air. So plastic pollutes the earth, water and air alike.

Polythene bags are extremely hazardous materials for our environment as well as for us. They are made up non biodegradable material and cannot be decomposed easily. We generally use them,and then throw them away along with the garbage. When we do this then the animals like cows and dogs in the search of food eat and take in these polythene bags which harm their health and can even lead to their death. They cause a lot of soil pollution as well. These polythene bags also lead to the blocking of drains. When we throw them in water bodies like rivers,ponds or lakes then they cause water pollution. Sometimes people try to burn these bags in order to get rid of them,but this also not a solution as it leads to the production of a lot smoke and harmful gases which goes in the air and cause air pollution. So a proper disposal method should be used,that is by using the two different coloured dustbins, one containing the biodegradable waste and one with the non biodegradable waste. So we should say no to the polythene bags on a personal level and instead we should use cloth bags,jute bags or paper bags.
