am sure that this is a concern to majority of us, especially in Gauteng where we find that most of the main intersections in our Town are full of people with cardboards asking you for a donation or trying to clean your screen even when you refuse.

Before I get criticised by a minority, I must share with you, that I do understand the desperation in many of them, due to the crisis and the unemployment that we are facing in our Country, I do sympathize, however I do not donate money, but I go out of my way to make an extra slice of bread in the morning or a piece of fruit to donate.

It was proven in the past by Carte Blanche that that some of them are a scam; however sometimes we cannot tell the difference, between the real desperation and the easy “buck”.

It is a usual landscape at the red light signal where u find wretched women in torn and weary clothes with a filthy child in their lap, moving from one car to another to grasp some money from the car sitters. The description of these creatures is so miserable that one hesitates to get closer to them since they adopt a poignant appearance in order to look profoundly pitiable and in this way draw out some coins from the pockets of people. One gets amazed to see their pretense of being disabled and inability to earn their livelihood by doing labor. Our government has discouraged the act of begging and hence banned it to stop people from getting involved in such morally foul activities.
