Answer:
Behrman's life-long dream was to paint a masterpiece, but this dream of his was still to be accomplished.
When Johnsy had made it certain that she would die as soon as the last leaf woulf fall off the ivy creeper, Sue told Behrman all about it.
That night there was a storm and only a few leaves were left on the old creeper. In the morning, it was discovered that only a last leaf was still clinging to the creeper. That night, there was another storm, and Johnsy was sure to die by the falling of the last leaf. But the next morning, the same last leaf was still clinging to the creeper.
It was that morning, when Sue gets to know about Behrma's death of pnumonia, and how the doctors had found wet and cold boots and clothes along with yellow and green paint in Behrman's room.
That was when Sue realises the truth. Behrman had painted the last leaf on the creeper all the night in the cold storm, and had sacrificed his life to save Johnsy's life. But Behrman's dream had come true, the last leaf was Behrman's masterpiece.
