Einstein was deeply shaken by the disaster in Hiroshima and Nagasaki caused by the atom bomb. He wrote a public missive to the United Nations . He proposed the formation of a world government to stop the use of nuclear weapons and to create world peace. But this letter made no impact. Over the next decade he got more involved in politics and campaigned for peace and democracy. He was agitating for an end to the arms buildup and was keen to stop wars among countries. Einstein is remembered as a visionary and world citizen as much as a scientific genius for the works he had done for humanity.
