And in a way to avoid pain most of the people tend to follow the rules rather than being punished. Also punishment means something that is against the will of the person and it is much easier to follow the rules and be disciplined instead of getting punished and doing something you really don’t like much.

However, studies show that punishment is often not necessary nor is it effective in disciplining children. But no punishment does not mean no discipline. ... Parents should also help kids understand the natural consequences of their own actions.
