A tree is a large woody plant. A defining feature is its tall hard stem. They have leaves. They propagate using seeds. There are a group of trees in a forest.
Trees are beautiful and useful gifts of nature. Trees are great friends of men. Trees give us flowers, fruits, timber, bamboo, fuels, etc. We can rest under the cool shade of a tree. We get wood from the trees to make furniture, doors, windows, etc.
Trees are also a great source of materials for paper, rubber, gums, herbs and medicine plants. Forest brings clouds and cause rainfall. Trees prevent soil erosion. They protect us from severe weather.
Importance of Trees: Trees are a part and parcel of earthly life. All life directly or indirectly owes its existence to them.
Trees release oxygen which we need for our life. They also absorb the carbon-dioxide.
Many living species live in trees. Trees form the natural habitat of many animals, birds and insects.
Trees help make the land fertile. We get good crops out of fertile land.
They are the sources of the fruits and flowers.
They offer us cool shade during summer.
During rainy season, we take shelter under the trees.
Trees and plants are the sources of many supply life-saving drugs.
They prevent land erosion and guard us against pollution. Thus, trees keep up the ecological balance.
Trees protect us from inclement wind also.
Seeds, nuts and fruits are food sources for humans and animals.
Trees protects the biodiversity of the ecosystem.
Tree resins are used in producing varnishes.
Essential oils derived from tree (example: eucalyptus, almond, camphor, etc) are used in medicinal and aroma industry.
Conclusion: Thus, trees play an important role in our life. Felling of trees disturbs the eco-system. We should preserve trees and plants with great care.

Our life is dependent upon trees. There is a long association of man and trees. Since the hoary past man and trees have been the two major creations of Nature. In his prehistoric days man turned to trees and plants to collect the things vitally necessary for his existence. Since that time man and trees have been interdependent, though man is more indebted to trees.
Trees and plants produce oxygen (O2) through the process of photosynthesis. They use sunlight to convert water and carbon-dioxide into oxygen and carbohydrates. We need oxygen for our survival.
Men’s experiences of the last century have taught him that trees and plants are the key factors to strike a balance in the eco-system.
Replanting of trees has been taken up in right earnest. The forests contain a large number of animal species, crops and medicines. Establishment of new forests with large number of trees (afforestation) is important on account of following reasons:
to provide shelter to wild animals,to combat pollution,
to re-fill the depleting oxygen,
to prevent soil erosion,
to safeguard the biodiversity,
to avoid extreme climatic fluctuations.
We require a forest land equal to one third of the total land area.
Conclusion: In the past few decades, there has been massive cutting of trees (deforestation). The hunger for agricultural land, hunt for timber and necessity for cheap fuel caused massive deforestation. The tropical forest trees were once the nerve centre of this planet. A large number of trees have already been destroyed. At some places, trees are being destroyed even today. As an effect of deforestation, there is a threat to the species of biodiversity.
