Some of these festivals are religious, while others are seasonal, and yet others are of national significance. Every holiday is celebrated differently depending on the customs and beliefs that surround it. Each festival has its own history, folklore, and celebration importance. Festivals foster human bonding, love, cross-cultural interaction, and joy.

Festivals play an important role in Indian culture. Some festivals are held at the national level, while others are held at the regional level. People of all different religions around the country together celebrate national festivals like Republic day, Independence day, and gandhi jayanti. Apart from national festivals there are large number of religious festivals like, Eid, Diwali, Poonam, Holi, etc. These festivals are celebrated by people belonging to a particular religion. The Other category of festivals celebrated in India are seasonal festivals. These are celebrated in a particular season by a particular group of people, for example, at the time of the harvesting of winter crop, Lohri festival is celebrated in Punjab.

Special sweets are prepared at the house to treat the guests. The people of India also hold great respect for the National festivals of the country.
