Explanation:Recently, I had the chance to attend a marriage ceremony of one of my first cousin in her hometown of Shillong. It was a typical Northeast Christian wedding and it was a great experience and also my very first time to experience such type of wedding.
The wedding took place in the local church where the guy attends, and then after the ceremony, there was the traditional sending off ceremony where the bride is given a formal yet traditional sending off from her family's side. Then after that program, there was a feast at both the bride's and groom's place. Then after the feast, the bride is sent off with gifts for the new family, the traditional presents that she got from her family and also from the guests who came to attend the ceremony.
I really find it intriguing that -
1. The wedding took place at the groom's church and not at the bride's church.
2. The guests brought gifts ranging from utensils to household furniture to even money
3. The feasts were organized by both parties in their respective places.
4. There was a traditional formal sending off ceremony for the bride, where her family's side gave her advice, gifts and encouraging words.
Overall, the whole experience was an eye opening and exciting experience for me, which I will have something to hang on to.
