Role of the Government in Healthcare

The government's job is to increase the availability of infrastructural resources, such as water, electricity, telecommunications, and roads. For these purposes, the federal government gives funds to the state governments.

India's Planning Commission develops a strategy for the most efficient and balanced use of the country's resources among its many responsibilities. State Planning Commissions exist in every state. In addition to its other duties, the State Planning Commission is responsible for providing necessary support to all Urban Local Bodies.

It is the government's job to prevent and treat illness and provide proper health facilities for all people, such as health centres, hospitals, laboratories for testing, ambulance services, blood banks, and so on. These services should be available to all patients, even in the most remote areas.

In 1996, the state budget allocated 40% of the budget to panchayats so that they could plan and provide for their needs. Water, food, women's development, and education were all planned adequately due to this.

Water supply schemes were examined, school and Anganwadi operations were ensured, and specific local issues were highlighted and resolved. Health-Care Centers have also been upgraded. All of these helped alleviate the situation, but other problems, such as a lack of medicines, insufficient hospital beds, and fewer doctors, must be addressed.
