Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the Sun that is harnessed using a range of ever-evolving technologies such as solar heating, photovoltaics, solar thermal energy, solar architecture, molten salt power plants and artificial photosynthesis.
It is an important source of renewable energyand its technologies are broadly characterized as either passive solar or active solardepending on how they capture and distribute solar energy or convert it into solar power. Active solar techniques include the use of photovoltaic systems, concentrated solar power and solar water heating to harness the energy. Passive solar techniques include orienting a building to the Sun, selecting materials with favorable thermal mass or light-dispersing properties, and designing spaces that naturally circulate air.
Hope this helps

Let’s forget solar for a moment. Imagine yourself visiting an Italian restaurant, ordering alfredo pasta with fusili (one of my favorites), and they prepare it just right. The amount of sauce is perfect, with adequately cooked fusili and even after finishing your portion you lust for a bit more of it. The meal you had, my friend, is nothing but solar energy.
Let me break it down for you. The pasta in front of you is a result of efforts put in by chef, to convert it from raw material to delicious cooked meal. The raw material for pasta was procured from some farm (ignore the middle steps) where farmer grew crops which was eventually used for it. These crops carry out a unique process in order to sustain, photosynthesis.
If you read about this process, the critical requirement is sunlight, which is converted into sugar and oxygen. The sugar (or carbohydrate) is food for plants to grow, eventually starting the whole food chain.
Now, to answer your question, any and every activity which is getting affected due to presence of sun, is actually due to solar energy. It may have positive as well as negative effects based on the circumstances. We are currently focused on converting this energy into widely usable form, electricity. But it doesn’t restrict there, the warmth you feel when you are out in the open is again due to solar energy.
So every time you are eating something, remember, it came from the Sun.
