i don't know about the Soviet but .The Battle of Britain (German: Luftschlacht um England, literally "The Air Battle for England") was a military campaign of the Second World War, in which the Royal Air Force (RAF) defended the United Kingdom(UK) against large-scale attacks by Nazi Germany's air force, the Luftwaffe. It has been described as the first major military campaign fought entirely by air forces.[17] The British officially recognise the battle's duration as being from 10 July until 31 October 1940, which overlaps the period of large-scale night attacks known as the Blitz, that lasted from 7 September 1940 to 11 May 1941.[18] German historians do not accept this subdivision and regard the battle as a single campaign lasting from July 1940 to June 1941, including the Blitz.[19]

The battle was a continuous attack on Britain by German Air force in 1940, in order to gain complete control over the air space of Britain.

It was the largest aerial bombing battle of its time.  

A vigilant use of human observers, to keep a track of things, was made and coastal radars were bombed and destroyed.

The bombing and battle targets were strategically decided and attacked like shipping centres and shipping convoys, factories, commercial centres, population centres, cities and thickly populated areas, and infrastructure.

However, later ""Luftwaffe"" (German Air force) itself started suffering due to the shortage of resources in battle. British defence was basically planned with the perfect coordination of tracing, commanding, and controlling.

Though at the end, Germany failed to erode and destroy air defence of Britain that was the objective target in the radar of the war.  

The destruction during the war was beyond thought mutual. It was a setback to the Germans in the Second World War and could not over-power Britain.

Soviet attack was an attempt of soviet invasion by Germany with a surprise attack in 1941.

After the invasion, they started mass homicide of Soviet Jews, killing millions of prisoners in Soviet, and mercilessly killed the civilians.

It was a planned attempt of conquest as for the expansion of Germany.

It is famously known as operation Barbarossa and it sought permanently and absolutely strike off communist threat to Germany.

They even went for a final physical annihilation.

Though the soviet did not fall apart and their defence got stringent meanwhile.  

Later in October, soviet launched a major counter attack, weeks later to its response, Germans got hold back their feet and resumed the attack where only in September of 1942, it reached further extension in geographical boundaries.
